Productinformation

Calendula officinalis Ivory Princess flower seeds

While most calendula flowers are orange, many gardeners prefer different colors for their blooms. Fortunately, there’s a new range of calendula flowers available in stunning shades of soft yellow, white, and warm orange to brown. Ivory Princess, as the name suggests, boasts creamy yellow to white blossoms. These flowers grow abundantly and are exceptionally easy to grow from seed. If you enjoy her color we can highly recommend giving her a try!

How to sow Calendula Ivory Princess seeds

You can sow calendula directly where you want them to flower, typically around April and May. Keep in mind that the seeds germinate in the dark. However, we had greater success when sown in trays. You can begin sowing them 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. Sow a second batch by the end of spring for an extended flowering period.

Calendula can also be sown in the autumn in a greenhouse because plants are (frost) hardy. Sowing in autumn results in early spring blossoms. Plants grow rather quickly, therefore its best to select a slightly larger pot to start seeds in. You can transplant them around the last expected frost. Don’t forget to harden off your seedlings before you plant them in the garden.

For those who wish to use calendula as cut flowers, you’ll achieve the longest vase life when you cut the flowers just before they fully open. If the flower heads droop soon after picking, you likely picked them too early. The first flowers tend to be the largest and of the highest quality.

If you’d like to have a continuous harvest, we recommend planting them in succession (sow multiple times in one season), around 3 to 4 weeks apart.
