How to grow Dianthus Raspberry Ripple from seed
Growing your own cut flower dianthus is not difficult but requires some patience. Start seed indoors in seed trays 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost and transplant out seedlings after all danger of frost has passed. Plants might grow slow in the beginning but don’t worry, 130 to 140 days feels like a very long time compared to some other annual flowering plants.
If you like to pick flowers for the vase you will get the longest vase life when you pick them when 1-2 flowers on the spray are open. With some liquid flower food, they easily have a vase life of 2 weeks. After the first frost, you can cut back the plant. Dianthus often survives winter but is a short-lived perennial and best grown as annual.
