Brussels sprouts are perfect if you like to eat and enjoy your garden in autumn and winter. We like to cook and then wok them with some oil and herbs. For us this feels like the ultimate Dutch winter meal just like stamppot.

Brussels sprouts - Groningen
Sow Brussels sprout from the beginning of April to mid-May in the garden in a seedbed and transplant about 5/6 weeks later. Brussels sprouts taste better if they have been (artificially) frozen.

  • Produces well shaped not too big sprouts
  • Winter vegetable


  • Sowing time indoors from April until May
  • Harvest from of November until February

Advice and tips

  • Keep the soil moist
  • Harvest after frost, or freeze in the freezer over night to improve flavor
  • Pick from the stem upwards
