Mexican pepper Jalapeño M seeds (Capsicum annuum)
If you like to eat hot, you will like this type of hot pepper as well! Jalapeño M is easy to grow from seed and gives relatively large and thick peppers of 8 cm long by 2 cm with a blunt end. Depending on the season and where you grow them (open ground, greenhouse, or in pots) the plants grow 50 to 80 cm tall. Harvest green Jalapeño peppers if you want to use them fresh or in sauces. You can wait for the fruits to turn red. Red peppers can be dried and stored. Drying is handy when your plants produce a lot. They store well and can be used in the winter months. Expect a SHU of 2000 – 5000. We also had a great harvest from a milder red pepper variety Cayenne long slim.

Sowing and harvesting

• Start in spring indoors with bottom heat;
• Growing peppers becomes easier when you use a propagator;
• Seeds germinate optimally around 25°C in 7-14 days;
• Grow on without bottom heat and bright light until frost has passed.

Advice and tips

• Peppers grow better in a greenhouse or sheltered spot if you live in a colder area;
• Peppers grow well in pots;
• Bottom water seedlings;
• Start seeds inCD60/15/30, 40-cell, or 77-cell trays and transplant them to larger 15-cell trays or P9 flower pots;
• Remove new flowers by the end of the season in order to mature the still growing peppers.
