Persicaria orientalis Cerise Pearls or dwarf kiss me over the garden gate seeds
A Victorian garden favorite for a reason! Persicaria Orientalis is a beautiful and easy-to-grow garden plant with tall and airy stems. This Cerise pearl variety is a modern daughter of the plants adored in Victorian times. It grows to a more manageable size and the flowers are raspberry pink instead of red. Cerise Pearls is 100 to 120 cm tall and still has that wild and airy effect. The cerise tassels give your garden color from July til October. Usually, the first frost abruptly ends its flowering season. The flowers attract a wide range of pollinators and the birds tend to eat the seeds in autumn. Although I never saw a bird eating persicaria seeds in our garden.

How to grow Persicaria Cerise Pearls from seed?
Because germination is irregular and can sometimes take a bit long it’s best to keep the soil moist but not wet. If you start seeds in wet soil your seeds might rot before they get the chance to germinate. If you have problems germinating seeds is often because your soil is too wet and/or too cold. Naturally, the seeds germinate next spring. to mimic that process you can start seeds in autumn in a greenhouse. You can also store the seeds in the fridge for 4 weeks and then sow them in seed trays indoors or in a greenhouse. This method is also known as stratification. But you can only use this method in spring because the plants are frost sensitive. Seed can be direct sown in spring or autumn.
Plant out seedlings after the last frost date. Water regularly after transplanting. Once plants are rooted they require very little care. Plant seedlings 30 cm apart for a full and impressive effect.
You can use persicaria as cut and dried flowers. cut the stems when they are young and fresh. I noticed that later harvested stems can drop petals after a few days.
