Red spinach variety Red Kitten (Spinacia oleracea)
Beautiful red spinach variety that can be harvested as baby leaves or full size. Spinach starts bolting when temperatures rise but red kitten is relatively slow bolting compared to other varieties. Therefore you can sow seeds until early April and harvest until the beginning of summer if you pick leaves regularly.
Sowing and harvesting
- Start seeds in February – early April for spring to early summer harvest
- Start seeds in august for an autumn and early spring harvest
- Seeds germinate within a few days if the soil is warm (20-25°C)
- regularly pick the outer leaves for a continued harvest.
Growing advice
- Resistant to Downy Mildew
- To speed up germination you can soak seeds in water for 24 hours
- Spinach is hardy to -10 to -15℃ and can be overwintered
- Hand-pollinated F1 variety, you cannot save seeds
