Winter Carrot – Berlikumer 2 (Daucus carota)
Winter carrots are very easy to grow and require very little maintenance. They also store for long periods of time. This variety is particularly suited for cooler climates and can even be grown in colder temperatures with the use of protective coverings such as cloches or row covers. However, if your soil is heavy and waterlogged during winter months it’s better to store your harvest in a cool shed or cellar.
Winter carrots store well because their water content is lower and the carrots are harder compared to summer varieties.
Sowing and harvesting
