We offer three specialized trays designed to cater to the specific needs of various flower seeds. Each tray is optimized for different types of flowers, ensuring that your flower seedlings have the best start possible and thrive as they mature.
Learn more in this page.
For flower seed trays, use a sterile, well-draining seed starting mix. A good mix typically contains potting soil and perlite or vermiculite.
This composition helps ensure adequate drainage and aeration, which are crucial for delicate flower seedlings. Adding a balanced, slow-release fertilizer can provide essential nutrients as the seedlings grow.
Watering from below is recommended to encourage healthy root growth and prevent diseases such as damping off.
Place the trays in a shallow reservoir of water, allowing the soil to absorb moisture from the bottom up until the surface is moist. Avoid overwatering by allowing the trays to dry out slightly between waterings.
Flower seeds generally require plenty of light to germinate and grow:
Mold or algae growth typically indicates too much moisture and insufficient air circulation.
Reduce watering frequency, improve airflow around the trays, and ensure that any covering does not trap excessive humidity. Scraping off the mold and letting the soil surface dry can also help mitigate the issue.
Absolutely! Our trays are designed to be reusable.
Rinse them well and dry before storing or reusing them.
Using the right tray makes transplanting easier and less stressful for the plants. When vegetables are given the right amount of space from the start, their roots are healthier and more contained within each cell, reducing damage during the transplant process and allowing for quicker establishment once moved to their final growing positions.
Our 77 cell low tray is designed for delicate, small-seeded flowers such as asters, rudbeckia, and snapdragons. These plants benefit from the tray's shallow cells, which are ideal for seeds that require light for germination and do not need much depth to flourish. This tray ensures that each seedling has sufficient space to grow without being overshadowed by soil or neighboring plants, making it easier to manage and nurture young flower plants.
Flowers that do not require deep root systems will thrive in our 40 cell low tray. This tray is perfect for species like calendula, phlox, tagetes (marigolds), nailwort, limonium, and strawflower, which need a bit more room than delicate seedlings but do not have extensive root systems. Providing just the right depth and space, this tray supports healthy growth and easy maintenance of these vibrant flowers.
For faster-growing flowers that develop significant root systems quickly, our 40 cell deep tray is the ideal choice. Flowers like cosmos, zinnia, dianthus, scabiosa, lupins, poppy, and digitalis (thimble) require more space to expand their roots, which supports their rapid above-ground growth. This tray allows these vigorous growers to flourish, providing the depth needed for their roots to anchor and gather nutrients effectively.
Choosing the right tray for your flower seeds ensures that they have the best conditions for germination. Certain flowers need light to germinate and should not be buried deep in the soil, while others require a bit of depth to anchor their roots. Selecting the appropriate tray helps maximize germination rates and gives your flowers the best start possible.
Each type of flower has unique root growth patterns. Trays designed to accommodate these patterns prevent root crowding and competition for nutrients, crucial for maintaining plant health and vigor. Proper root development is key to successful flowering and overall plant resilience.
Using trays that match the growth needs of your flowers simplifies maintenance tasks like watering, weeding, and disease management. Adequate spacing in the appropriate trays reduces the risk of disease spread and makes it easier to care for each plant individually, which can be particularly important during the critical early stages of growth.
