How to grow Didiscus pink and white lace flowers from seed

You can sow lace flowers directly outdoors in April or May where they are to flower. Lightly cover the seeds with soil and keep them moist. Alternatively, sow seeds earlier indoors, 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, in seed trays. Place the trays on a windowsill or in a greenhouse, ideally on a heat mat.

Plants grow better when started in larger cells or pots. If using smaller cells or pots, transplant seedlings when they are still small. Lightly cover the seeds with soil as they need darkness to germinate, or use a piece of cardboard to block out light. Water only from below.

Once the danger of frost has passed, plant the seedlings in the garden with 20-30 cm spacing. Plants will flower from June through August. They can tolerate a mild frost in spring.

Plants may require support if your garden is windy. The lace flowers are great for flower arrangements, and you can pick the stems when the first flowers begin to open. The flowers usually last up to 5 days.
