Tips for Growing and Germinating Hyssop (Agastache) Seeds

Start by filling a pot or module tray with high-quality, fine-seed compost. Gently sow the seeds on top and lightly press them into the compost—just a light touch, no need to bury them, as they need some sunlight to germinate.

Place the tray in a propagator or cover it with a clear plastic lid, maintaining a warm environment of 18 to 20°C. If your greenhouse or room is cooler, use a seedling heat mat. Water from the base to keep the soil moist but not soggy. In about 14 to 28 days, you'll see the seeds begin to sprout. Gradually introduce fresh air to avoid damping off and to strengthen the seedlings.

Once the seeds have germinated, lower the temperature or turn off the heat mat to prevent the seedlings from growing too fast without gaining strength. If you started your seeds in February or March, transition them to the outdoors gradually. You can first move them to a greenhouse or use a propagator or clear plastic box for a gentler transition.
