Sowing calendula seeds

For those looking to get a head start, sow your calendula seeds indoors or in a greenhouse 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. You can sow calendula through spring until early June. Given their rapid growth, we recommend starting the seeds in larger cell-size trays for the best results. Direct sowing in spring or autumn is also a great option.

Alternatively, you can start seeds in autumn in a greenhouse and plant out in March. This will give you earlier blooms and larger plants. Don’t forget to give your winter seedlings extra space by transplanting them into larger pots.

When it comes to cut flowers, 'Orange Flash' is a great addition to your garden. Harvest the blooms just before they fully open to ensure the longest vase life, up to 7 days. For continuous blooms throughout the season, consider successive sowings every 3 to 4 weeks.
