How to grow calendula orange flash from seed
You can sow calendula directly where they are to flower around April and May. Keep in mind that the seeds germinate in the dark. We prefer to start seeds a bit earlier early indoors or in the greenhouse. You can start them around 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost, or in the autumn in the greenhouse to overwinter for an early flowering next spring. We start seeds in 40 cells or larger as the plants grow rather fast. As hardy to half-hardy annuals you can plant them out around the last expected frost or a bit earlier as long as you harden the plants off.
If you like to use calendula as cut flowers you get the longest vase life when you cut flowers just before they open. If the heads bend over soon after you picked them you probably picked them too early. The first flowers are the largest and of the best quality. If you like to pick them over a longer period I would recommend planting them in succession, around 3 to 4 weeks after each other.
