Garden accessories

Garden accessories online

By garden accessories, we mean everything that is useful for your vegetable or flower garden. Handy tools for the vegetable garden that we have tested ourselves and use regularly. We hate poor-quality tools and therefore we only sell garden accessories and tools that make us happy.

Vegetable garden tools

Working in the garden can sometimes be quite tough, so having the right tools for the job is a must. That’s why our garden shovels are made of sturdy material and we don’t ship them in unnecessary plastic bags or packaging. We go for durable and good quality tools so you only have to buy them once in your life.

Handy vegetable garden tools

Because we are in our own vegetable garden every day, we know exactly what kind of stuff is handy to have. We found out that permanent markers fade in the sun, so it is much better to write with pencil on plant labels. For that, you need special plant labels. Names can easily be erased and that is why the plant labels are reusable. A real win-win situation!

Lazy vegetable gardening

We like the lazy gardening style. That’s why we want to use as many easy tools and things in the garden as possible so that we don’t have to bend over too much or our harvest might fail. A dipper, for example, is very handy to quickly and easily make many holes in which to plant your small seedling. First, we make a row of holes, and then with one hand, we plop the seedlings out of the seed trays and into their new garden spot. Some vegetables and flowers need protection against butterflies or too much cold and rain. A low polytunnel is very handy for this. With the arches, you stretch an agricultural plastic or net over your plants so that they are better protected and the chance of many harvests is greater.

Tools for making your own compost

Because we garden according to Charles Dowding’s no-dig method, we need a lot of compost. To make sure your compost is of good quality and free from unwanted pesticides, you can make your own. In addition, by making your own compost you can reuse your green waste and save money. Good compost contains both green and brown garden waste. Brown garden waste includes leaves. These can be easily collected and transported in a garden bag. You can also add some clean brown cardboard if you don’t have enough brown waste. When the compost has a good composition, the heap will warm up. To find out if this is happening, insert a compost and soil thermometer into the compost heap.

How to germinate seeds successfully

Germinating seeds can sometimes seem difficult. We often think that the seeds are of bad quality or too old. In the process, we found out that some seeds will only germinate under perfect conditions. Since we managed to provide better conditions, the germination rate increased significantly. Did you know, for example, that seeds can germinate twice as fast at a higher temperature? Especially in spring in a cold greenhouse, it can take a long time before seeds germinate. With the help of, for example, a heat mat you can artificially warm up the compost so that seeds do get the right conditions to start. A warm windowsill or heat mat can therefore help seeds germinate faster and in greater numbers.
By adding heat, the soil can dry out more quickly. Especially for young seedlings, too dry air can be a disaster. Therefore, when using a heat mat or growing in a windowsill, we often recommend placing the seed trays in a propagator with a closed lid. This way you prevent all moisture from evaporating and you create a favorable microclimate for your seedlings.
