How do you grow coreopsis from seed?
Start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Sow seeds in seed trays and do not cover the seeds too much becasue they need light to germinate. The seeds germinate faster is you can use a heatingmat. in two to three weeks you will see the first seedlings emerge. after germination you can grow them on at a cooler place. This prevents seedlings from getting long and thin. Before you plant out the seedlings its better to harden them off. This means that you let the plants get used to the outdoor conditions before planting them out in the garden. Once your seedlings are big and strong enough to go outside you can plant them at a distance of 30 to 40 cm. The plants flower relatively early in the season and if you deadhead regularly they will flower till the first frost.
You can use this coreopsis or tickseed as cut flower. Pick stems when 1/3 of the flowers are open. When possible try to pick the flowers before it is too hot outside to prevent wilting. The flowers last around 5 days.
