How to grow Didiscus blue and white lace flowers from seed?
You can sow lace flowers directly where they are to flower in April and May. Cover seeds lightly with soil and keep moist. Or sow seeds earlier in the season, 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost in seed trays and keep the seed tray on a window sill or in the greenhouse, preferably on a heat mat. We noticed plants grow better if you grow them in a bigger size cell or pot. If you start in a smaller cell or pot it’s best to plant out seedlings when they are still small. Lightly cover with soil as seeds need to be in the dark to germinate. You can also use a piece of cardboard to exclude light. Water only from below. When the danger of frost has passed you can plant out seedlings in the garden with 20-30 cm spacing. Plants will flower in June, July, and August. Plants can tolerate a very mild frost but are more of an annual flowering type. Plants might need some support if your garden is exposed to a lot of wind.
The blue and white lacy flowers can be used in flower arrangements. Pick stems when the first flowers are opening. Flowers usually last up to 7 days.
