How to Grow Scabiosa from Seed

Growing Scabiosa from seed is simple and rewarding. You can start the seeds either in the spring or late summer.

To start seeds in spring, sow them 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date. For overwintering in a greenhouse, sow the seeds in September in seed trays. You can also direct sow the seeds in spring and thin them out later.

For September sowings, plant out the seedlings the following spring. For spring-sown seedlings, plant them out around the last expected frost date. Regular watering and deadheading will support new flower growth.

Scabiosa thrives in both full sun and partial sun. The plants may require some support if you prefer perfectly straight stems.
