Pros and cons

According to our gardening experts

Chantenay is perfect for all soil types, but it is especially suited for gardens with heavier soil, such as clay. The shorter root is less prone to forking, a common deformity that often occurs in heavier soil types.

  • The carrots can become less tender as the season comes to an end. You can prevent this by harvesting a bit sooner than you normally would.

Directly sow carrots in rows and thin them out to 2 cm apart. Avoid overwatering when they are nearly ready to prevent the carrots from splitting. Ensure the orange roots are always covered to prevent them from turning green.
