How to Grow Annual Chinese Aster Flamingo at sunset from Seed

Growing annual Chinese asters from seed is straightforward. Start the seeds in late winter to early spring in module trays within a greenhouse or on a windowsill. While direct sowing in April is possible, it's not a method we recommend as we haven't tested it. Covering the seeds isn't necessary, as they germinate quickly. However, note that the plants grow slowly.

Plant the seedlings out from the end of April after hardening them off. Staking is required to support the large flowers. To prevent Fusarium Wilt, rotate their planting location in the garden each year. The plants begin to flower about 100-120 days after sowing and will continue to produce blooms until early autumn.

These asters make excellent cut flowers due to their strength. Pick them when the flowers have opened, but before the yellow center is visible. Picking too early might cause them to wilt. When harvested at the right stage, these flowers can last up to 10 days in a vase.
