Cornflower Centaurea cyanus Classic romantic with pink to white flowers

This cornflower mix, also known as bachelors buttons is an amazing mixture of white, pink, and white to pink.  Due to the different shades of the flowers, it is a great addition to your homegrown bouquets. With just a few plants it looks like you have grown at least 3 different varieties! The flowers are blooming on long stems up to 90 cm tall. This plant is a true cut and comes again variety, the more you pick the more flowers the plants will produce. When grown as border plant deadheading the flowers will prolong flowering. The soil must not be too rich, fertilizer makes the plants grow more leaves than flowers. Early sowings will become taller than plants that were grown from seed later in the season.

Harvesting flowers
To get the longest vase life harvest individual flowers when buds are about halfway open. If you like to use larger branches cut stems when most of the buds in them are colored. You can enjoy the flower at home for up to 7 days.
You can dry the petals for cake or card decoration. You can dry the stems but they are not very sturdy.
