How to grow double flower Snapdragon Madame Butterfly ivory from seed
Snapdragons possess some of the smallest seeds among all plants, and while sowing them can be a bit challenging, the rewards are truly worth it. Given their light-dependent germination, I suggest not covering the seeds when sowing. For those in regions with mild winters, autumn is an ideal time to start sowing. Alternatively, you can sow the seeds in early spring using seed trays in a greenhouse, polytunnel, or on a windowsill. These half-hardy plants can be transplanted outdoors in late spring.
To support the tall and heavy stems of snapdragons, it’s beneficial to provide them with some form of support. Regularly removing dead flowers will encourage continuous blooming and maintain the overall health of the plants.
If you wish to promote new growth, consider cutting the stems back deep into the plant. This pruning technique will stimulate the emergence of new shoots just below the cut. Snapdragons also serve as excellent cut flowers. When harvesting, select stems with the first few flowers starting to open and remove most of the foliage. With proper care, we have observed stems lasting up to two weeks, adding beauty to your indoor floral arrangements.
