How to grow double flower Snapdragon Madame Butterfly pastel yellow from seed
Snapdragons possess some of the smallest seeds in the plant kingdom! While they can be a bit challenging to sow, the rewards are well worth it. Due to their minuscule size and light dependency for germination, I recommend not covering the seeds when planting. Depending on your climate, you can start sowing the seeds in the autumn if you experience a mild winter or in early spring using seed trays in a greenhouse, polytunnel, or on a windowsill. These plants are considered half-hardy and can be transplanted outdoors in late spring. Given their tall and heavy stems, it is advisable to provide support to prevent them from bending. Snapdragons exhibit continuous blooming if you diligently remove the faded flowers. For rejuvenation, you can prune the stems deeply, and new shoots will emerge just below the cut. Snapdragons also make splendid-cut flowers. Harvest the stems when the first few flowers begin to open and remove most of the foliage. With proper care, we have observed stems lasting up to two weeks!
Did you know it is very easy to root the cutting of snapdragons? if you pinch the plants you can dip the ends in rooting powder and plant them in trays. A propagator will help to maintain a high level of moisture in the air and prevents cutting from drying out.
