How to Grow Amaranthus from Seed

Growing Amaranthus from seed is straightforward and rewarding. Start by sowing the seeds a few weeks before the last expected frost date. You can germinate them at home or on a heat mat. Once the seedlings emerge and the weather is mild, move them to a greenhouse. If nights are still cold, cover the plants with a layer of fleece for protection.

After the last frost date has passed, plant the young amaranthus 30 to 50 cm apart in your garden. Direct sowing is also an option once the danger of frost is over. For a personal cutting garden, you can plant them closer together than if you are growing them as ornamental garden plants.

Amaranthus Hot Biscuits thrive in rich soil. We recommend using the no-dig method, adding 2.5 cm of compost each year, as popularized by Charles Dowding. The plants can grow tall and may require some support.

By following these guidelines, you'll enjoy a bountiful and beautiful display of Amaranthus Hot Biscuits in your garden.
