Briza maxima flower seeds
Briza is an ornamental grass that belongs to the Poaceae family. The seedheads are eatable but this type of grass is mainly used as filler in dried flower bouquets. Briza comes from the Greek word brithó which means balance, referring to the spikelets moving in the wind. Briza maxima is the annual type of Briza.

How to grow Briza maxima from seed
Direct sow where you prefer the grass to grow and thin out or replant later. You can also sow seed in the autumn in seed trays to plant out the following spring. Germination can be very erratic so don’t give up too soon. Harden off and plant out in March and April. Expect to harvest starting from late May. Briza Maxima is a fantastic filler for early summer bouquets if you start seeds in the autumn.
