Productinformation

Japanese Pak Choy or taisai seeds (Brassica campestris)
Pak choi is our favorite cabbage because it is fresh, mild, and crispy. It may not be the easiest vegetable to grow, but it is definitely worth mastering! Ignore the advice found on most seed packages and instead, try following the method recommended by Charles Dowding. We achieved great success by following his advice.

The wonderful aspect of his method is that you can sow pak choi relatively late in the season. During spring and early summer, you are busy with sowing, weeding, and harvesting, which often causes you to forget about sowing for later season harvests. However, with pak choi, you can sow it in mid-summer (and late winter)!

Sowing and harvesting

  • Sow in mid-June to early August in trays,
  • Harvest in October and November
  • Sow in February,
  • harvest in April and May
  • Protect seedlings with mesh;
  • Start in CD60, 77, or 40 cell or 40 cell deep trays and plant out seedlings 3-6 weeks later depending on
    the cell size and how soon the roots have filled the cells.
  • Harvest in October and November
  • Enjoy within days after harvesting

Advice and tips

  • Great quick autumn vegetable;
  • Not the easiest to grow;
  • Space 20-25 cm apart
  • Great cabbage for smaller gardens!
